Job DescriptionAmazon is seeking a talented Oracle database administrator/architect to add to our world class team of database professionals. The database services organization consists of multiple teams responsible for 24x7 operations and scaling internationally in addition to being responsible for driving out the architecture for the database/data layer of our technology stack. This responsibility includes logical design, physical design, software API's, operations & scaling/availability as well as systems engineering across over 100 leading edge Unix systems. Systems range in size from hundreds of gigabytes to multiple terabytes and are very distributed in nature. Users can range in the order of tens of thousands concurrently.
This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the industry leaders in the technology field to develop, deploy and support innovative solutions for the challenges of tomorrow. This is not your typical DBA shop.
Desired Candidate ProfileIf you have a strong Oracle/Unix background, a passion for technology and are interested in aggressive growth this is the opportunity for you.
The ideal Design DBA candidate will have full life-cycle experience from requirements gathering to logical and physical modeling, design, development, testing, implementation, and tuning. A strong background in custom relational database development and/or software deployment is preferred.
The ideal Operations DBA candidate will have experience with architecture design, capacity planning, performance tuning, back-up and recovery, and 24/7 operational support, preferably in a large-scale (>500GB) e-commerce environment with high availability.
Either candidate will have at least three to five years of Oracle DBA (Oracle 8x/9x) experience. A background that contains strong Unix skills (HP platform preferred) in either a systems administration or systems engineering type role is required. Strong troubleshooting skills are required.
Additionally, experience in Oracle advanced replication, Oracle advanced queuing, Perl development, data warehousing, and packaged ERP applications (Financials, PeopleSoft) is also strongly desired.
