Principal DBA - I JobsCafe.com Job Description Principal DB Engineer in the Data and Analytics (DNA) team in Yahoo! Bangalore. The mission of the DNA team is to enable data-driven decisions that optimize the reach, engagement, and monetization of Y! owned and operated products. We are working on building a Business Intelligence (BI) platform that will help transform Yahoo! into an insight-driven business with high confidence in the data produced.
Job Responsibilities:
* Work with senior management, engineering and business teams to solve a wide-range of issues, understand broad business concepts and translate them to technical solutions
* Work on an integrated DB design for the DNA platform that meets the needs of the various reporting products as well as the ETL processes
* Dimension modeling and ETL design
* Provide hands-on technical leadership to the team in the DB engineering domain
* Work closely with the DBA team to optimize the performance, scalability and reliability needs of the DB platform
* Establish best-practices for the team and ensure the overall quality of the DB architecture and design
* Investigate and design the next generation of DB systems such as DB appliances, etc.

* In-depth understanding of database system architecture (primarily Oracle), data storage technologies, disk/network performance tradeoffs, caching strategies, failover and performance tuning
* Must have demonstrated ability to design, implement and tune data mart/reporting systems in a large-scale data environment. Preference is for Oracle-based systems.
* Good understanding of implementing data security and identifying security bugs in application code (concepts such as sql injection)
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* BS/MCA/MS/PhD in Computer Science with relevant work experience of which at least 2-3 years is as an architect for a significantly complex product/service
* Self directed, highly motivated individual
* Optional: Knowledge of reporting tools like MicroStrategy
* Optional: Knowledge of distributed computing technologies, especially Hadoop, PIG, etc.
* Optional: Prior work experience in the web analytics domain
* Optional: Contributions in external forums (conferences, publications, blogs, open source)
