The Content Technology group provides systems development and support for all of the content processing needs. All of the content used in Westlaw print and electronic products is sourced from systems developed by this group. The group oversees and executes on a wide range of project types, ranging from cost saving infrastructure to revenue driving product development initiatives.
The Acquisition and Publishing Services group is responsible for the software needed to acquire, normalize and publish information across all major West content sets to a wide range of online and print products. Content acquired and published through the software developed by this group is a fundamental part of the Legal BU revenue stream. The group will support existing capabilities as well as the development of new capabilities to support new product development initiatives and major infrastructure initiatives.
This role will act as liaison between US based technology staff and the Bangalore development team to gather, document and understand the functional and non-functional requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, organization, communication, and problem solving skills. They must also possess effective oral and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills. A history of resolving time sensitive issues in a fast paced production environment while maintaining strong customer relationships are key selection criteria.
Essential day to day responsibility -
1. (50%) Provide requirement and design inputs to a team of software engineers for the development of new projects and features. Responsible for gathering functional and non-functional requirements from US based technology staff and other requirements providers, understanding the requirements based on priority set by Project leaders and ensuring all team members are well aware of the requirements and priorities. Obtain timely clarifications on requirements and ensure requirements documents are up to date. Create User stories and technical design documents that translate the business requirements into appropriate technical solutions. Provide liaison between development and testing teams to ensure requirements are understood in a concise and clear manner and there are no ambiguities during implementation phases. Keep track of change requests, conduct demo/walk thru sessions, participate in functional specifications reviews and contribute to project estimates, scheduling and test plans.
2. (30%) Interact with a variety of staff in roles ranging from development, project management, business/technical analyst, infrastructure, and quality teams to provide end-to-end support to meet business goals. Work with various teams throughout the organization in order to complete projects successfully.
3. (20%) This position must partner with leaders across technology teams to determine the most appropriate business solutions, conforming to best practices and guidelines. Help to create solutions that deliver near term business value while keeping longer term and strategic objectives in mind.
Additional Information -
This is an individual contributor role and there is no headcount reporting into this position. This position is responsible for interacting with all development managers and team leads in the Acquisition and Publishing Services team and provide necessary support for translating business requirements into appropriate technical solutions.

Required Skills -
Knowledge and Skills
The ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical staff is critical in the development of project plans that meet business needs and reflect resource and technical constraints. As a result, this position must demonstrate strong business acumen and communications skills.
Technical knowledge should include hands-on design and development experience in Java and information persistence technologies like relational databases and XML. Knowledge of content management technologies in an information industry context is a big plus.
Experience of working in Full life-cycle software development projects including analysis, design, implementation and testing of new projects and features using Java, XML/XSLT and Unix technologies.
Ability to identify development processes and practices that can improve efficiency and add business value. Effectively balance and prioritize multiple projects concurrently.
Previous Experience
Candidates should possess:
5+ years of background in software development
2+ years of experience in successful leadership of software development teams and in interacting with line business staff to set business and project priorities.
3+ years in development projects involving Java/Unix technologies and object-oriented analysis and design principles. Experience should include working in Analysis and Design phases and generating effective and clear documentation of requirements.
Experience in minimum of two full lifecycle development on medium/large projects, ideally demonstrated in a globally distributed team environment
Strong documentation and presentation skills, understanding of Analysis and Design principles, in depth understanding of development and testing methodologies
Experience in writing use cases and user stories, defining acceptance tests, following requirements through to production and training developers in domain and business issues
Candidates should also possess:
An established track record for creating clear and concise requirements documents for medium to large scale projects.
Experience in use of agile methodologies
Exposure to modeling tools such as Visio, Rose, UML and ERD
A history of meeting aggressive deadlines in uncertain environments and maintaining strong customer relationships.
Skills in working with high performing teams that demonstrate excellence in a dynamic fast-paced environment with a high degree of flexibility and accountability.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including both oral and written proficiency
Desired Skills -
Knowledge of content management technologies in an information industry context is a big plus.
